The activities of the Friends of Pickerings Pasture are summarised in the statement below

Members of the Friends of Pickerings Pasture:
•    Take an active part in the care, control and development of the reserve.
•    Aid the Parks and Countryside service, through involvement in projects that help maintain, develop and promote the reserve.
•    Support public and educational activities on the reserve.

It was a HBC initiative that lead to the formation of the Friends of Pickerings Pasture. The group was initially fairly informal, with a specific interest in Pickerings Pasture LNR. After a number of years it was decided that the group would benefit from having a constitution. Some discussion and several meetings took place to develop the constitution that was adopted by the group. In 2004 the FoPP also became involved in projects at Hale Duck Decoy and started to take an interest in the maintenance, development and promotion of that reserve too.

Both Pickerings Pasture LNR and Hale Duck Decoy Nature Reserve are managed by Halton Borough Council and are under the supervision of the same Ranger. The sites are less than a mile apart, separated by Hale Marsh. The sites are linked by guided walks from Pickerings to the Decoy.

Members of the FoPP come from all walks of life and all ages are welcome. We hold an AGM each year at which only members who have attended 50% or more of the monthly meetings can vote. At the other monthly meetings only committee members can vote but every opinion is listened to and appreciated. Most business is carried through by general agreement and it is difficult to remember an occasion when we have found it necessary to vote on a decision. We are still a fairly informal group in many ways.

While we encourage members of the FoPP to attend as many meetings as they can, it isn't a problem if they are only able to attend infrequently. The choice is theirs. The FoPP do benefit from members attending meetings because each person brings something extra, in views and experience, to the group. We try to change the day of the week and the time of the day that we hold meetings, to suit as many people as possible. At the meetings we do the planning, sort out the dates for activities and projects and discuss issues of interest to the group.
