PROJECT NEWS - Jan/Feb 06
Location: Cheshire
|

January and February 06 have been very productive planning months for our group. We have set a date for a Memories Event, drawn up workshop ideas for primary aged children and we have started work on our History Tree. This covers three of our project objectives.
|
On Sunday the 12th March 06, at 2pm, we are holding a Memories Event at the Pickerings Pasture Visitors Centre. The Mayor of Halton will attend and give a short address to the meeting. Rob Smith, the Ranger, will give a presentation on the Hale Duck Decoy, assisted by Rob Cockbain, a member of the Friends group and a long standing volunteer at the decoy. A mock up of the planned decoy history tree will be on display, along with other related materials. There will be an opportunity for local people to record memories of the decoy or to arrange to record memories on an other day. Refreshments will be served by members of the Friends group.
As three members of our Friends group are retired teachers, we have decided to offer a drama workshop to local primary schools. These local children are the future generation who will have responsibility for the care of this site. We hope to make them aware of the history and purpose of the decoy and to develop an interest in this very special local place.
The History Tree has now been discussed in detail, designs have been drawn and the whole concept should be realised and in place by the summer. Some ground work has also been done in clearing the immediate site of this display and a bench, to sit and contemplate the tree, should be in situation for its unveiling.
We have done some more memories recording. It was interesting to talk to two local women, who had visited the decoy, as girl guides, in the 40/50's.
We are making good progress but have a lot more to do to complete the project. We are still looking for more history, memories and photographs to go in our information folders and displays. If you can help us please get in touch or join us on a guided walk, to gather memories of your own |
