There was a good turn out of Friends for the Bird Box Project Day. Around 30 bird boxes were either repaired or new ones put up, in preparation for the breeding season.
It was a very windy day and members had to hold on tight to the ladders as they made repairs to many damaged bird boxes. The new boxes had been made as a donation to Pickerings Pastures by a long term associate of the Friends and the site. At the same time, a couple of members tackled the Willow Whale, cutting it down and removing the debris. Vandals had attempted to set fire to it some time ago and the Ranger decided it was past repair and best removed. It was a large structure and took a good 3 hours to complete the task. Eventually the Friends left for home knowing they had made a really worthwhile contribution to the local wild life habitat and the general environment.
