kingfisher_-_derek_belton_oct_2010Visiting bird watchers, Derek and Majorie Belton, sent us a photograph of two Kingfishers, that they had watched, chasing each other around the scrape, at Pickerings Pasture, between 3 and 4pm, on the 11th October.

They had already contacted us about a Ruddy Shelduck, that they had observed, from the hide, on the marsh, on the 9th October.

Gary and I took food to the bird feeders, in the hide area, and spotted the Ruddy Shelduck ourselves, feeding, along with the Canada Geese, on the Marsh.

Escapes from captivity often account for sightings of Ruddy Shelducks here, though immmature birds do appear, in Autumn, from Continental Europe.

Kingfisher are quite regular visitors to the scrape, at Pickerings, but it is rather special to see two.
