Helping our wild birds survive the arctic conditions PDF Print E-mail

thumb_robin_feedingThe really severe weather, this December, and the even earlier heavy frosts, has made wild bird feeding, at Pickerings Pasture and Hale Duck Decoy, even more important and necessary than usual. With heavy snow on the ground and temperatures so low, it's not so easy for our local wild bird life to survive. The FoPP have already spent almost double their usual expenditure on wild bird food. We are very grateful that HBC has given us a substantial grant towards our costs, this year, which we expect to receive shortly.

If you are visiting Pickerings Pasture, we would like to encourage you to take along some bird seed, peanuts or fat balls, with you. They can be left at the feeding stations or any where on site that wild birds might benefit from food. At this sparse time of year, it is difficult for them to find food naturally and many will perish without our help. A bit of Christmas cake will be very welcome treat for a hungry bird.

Many thanks to the Pickerings Pasture visitors, especially George, who already take a supply of bird food to the site.

Don't forget to make an extra effort to feed your garden birds too.
