The high tides over the last few days have filled the scrape pool. Itpond_5 has been almost dry for several weeks now: only the rain has kept it from drying out completey. Today the tide was part way up the marsh when we arrived at the hide.

An hour later: the tide had retreated and we were treated to a wildlife spectacle, as waders flew in onto Hale Marsh. Redshanks, 3 black-tailed godwits, a lovely flock of lapwings, curlew, ringed plovers, a dunlin and a curlew sandpiper joined the huge numbers of Canada geese that roosted on the marsh. panorama_2a

A buzzard sat on the fence nearby watching for rabbits or smaller prey, a kestrel hovered over the farm fields, a sparrowhawk flew low over the pond and the peregrine falcon sat on the marsh preening. Nearby were six herons. It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
