staple_i_seals_5aWhilst walking back from the Pickerings bird hide, on the 6th January, we noticed a seal out in the river. From the views obtained, we thought it was a grey seal. These have been recorded very occasionally, in the past.
According to local new's reports, several young grey seals have been washed up and rescued in the area, following the recent gales.
Grey seals breed near Hilbre Island, at the mouth of the River Dee.
Another surprise, just below the car park, were two immature mute swans, sailing down river.
